Understanding the dating game

It has been interesting to see how much premarital relationships have changed from what they used to be like a few decades how much the term dating has changed from how it used to be used and how it was meant to be originally in the premarital relationship process that progressed from dating first next to courtship then proceeding to engagement which accumulates in marriage if it runs the full course to its end goal not that marriage is the end only a new beginning. First is dating and it’s many and various roles in the mate selection process that eventually leads to courtship. As the dating is occurring there is a lot to learn from your other half and it’s why “hanging” especially before marriage should only be done so much. I. The process of hanging out with the opposite sex while you can learn somethings usually because of the relaxed atmosphere and focus on relaxing there is a limited opportunity to learn about and better understand you date or someone you are trying to date ...

Different but equal

This week has been a deep discussion on one of the more sensitive topics in today’s society and continues to be a hot topic both individually and academically.  What I enjoyed most is the way we systematically went through each topic such that the discussion was both informative while also not offensive unless someone chose to be offended by many things that were largely factual meaning that they don’t want the truth just what is convenient and easy as we often see in society today.  From the start we began by viewing traits that are inherently more common in both males and females. One of the interesting facts that came up that make each have certain biological advantages over the other is the brain's composition. While male brains have more grey matter inherently making them have better memory capabilities females have more white matter making them naturally better at forming connections. What I like about this is many of the other facts that were brought up not becau...

Another perspective

As we have been going through the discussions in class this week I was able to see so much more of how the world affects my family but also other’s families and the view it has given them despite the reality of their circumstances. As we were discussing the various ecological influences on a family we ended up gaining a much better understanding of both the general ecological influences on them as well as a prime example of how much they can change and shape family as we viewed and discussed how it affects many of the families that immigrate from Mexico and how it makes that what they are and the role they play in society today. While some people have a very negative view of illegal immigrants and others have a very positive one I try to be neutral only so that I may view their circumstances from a rational point of view and not be overly swayed by bias one way or another. For starters most of those who come over to the United States do so because the image of the American dream ...

Family interactions

It has been to see and discuss the different ways and theories on how relationships are formed and maintained as well as the type of interactions that dictates the flow and type of interactions in said relationships. One of the most interesting views being on the thoughts and discussion on conflict theory which most people would instantly think of as bad and only detrimental to a relationship or the types of interactions you would have with those around you but in many circumstances is very beneficial. For example a conflict in the way two different people view something may create a new third option or way of viewing something that is better than either of the original views of either individual while at the same type it is through meeting different views gain new and better understand of our own and may learn and go down a better path by realizing we were going down a worse path or wrong path.   From there we moved to exchange theory which was an interesting way of vi...

What is the truth?

During the discussions this week I was reminded of how carful one needs to be with information that you have received from any source especially the media given how hard it is nowadays to differentiate between the falsehoods and the truth when even the person who thinks they are right may be misinformed as well depending on how they obtained how they gained said information.      The example that was given in the discussion while it did use actual research in the case they took to the Supreme Court on the debate on same sex marriage. The biggest issue is how faulty the data they used was and despite that being pointed out it was still used and accepted. What I afraid of most from this is how easily people will be misinformed or lid to and yet easily except it as the truth because someone they trust or is a fried told them.     A good example of how this has affected people and families both in the past and present i...
